📐 1. Sheet Pile Anchor Pull‑out & Uplift Resistance

Sheet pile walls are often anchored using tie rods connected to anchor blocks or embedded sheets. The pull‑out capacity (uplift resistance) depends on soil type, grip length, and effective overburden pressure. This calculator uses:

  • Cohesive soils (clay): Qpull = α · cu · As (α adhesion factor, As embedded area)
  • Granular soils (sand): Qpull = σ'v · K · tanδ · As (K = earth pressure coefficient, δ = friction angle)

Design pull‑out capacity = Qult / FS
Typical FS = 2.0–3.0 for temporary anchors, 3.0–4.0 for permanent.

📘 5. How to Use the Calculator

  1. Select soil type (cohesive or granular).
  2. Enter embedded width (or sheet pile width) and grip length (embedded depth).
  3. For cohesive soil: provide undrained shear strength cu.
  4. For granular soil: provide friction angle φ' and effective vertical stress at anchor depth.
  5. Set safety factor (FS).
  6. Click "Compute Capacity" – ultimate and allowable pull-out forces are displayed.
  7. 2D schematic shows anchor embedded in soil with force arrows.
  8. Batch CSV: upload multiple designs for comparison.
  9. PDF report includes all parameters and sketch.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

❓ What is a typical adhesion factor α for clay?
α = 1.0 for soft clay (cu < 25 kPa), reducing to 0.4 for stiff clay (cu > 100 kPa). The tool interpolates.
❓ What K and δ values for granular soil?
For driven sheet piles, K ≈ 1.0–1.5, δ ≈ 0.8φ. The tool uses K=1.2, δ=0.8φ.
❓ How to increase pull-out capacity?
Increase grip length, use larger width, or improve soil compaction around anchor.
